The Oxford Quantum Institute (OQI) has appointed its first Early Career Research Fellow Dr. Aonan Zhang.
During his OQI ECR Fellowship Dr Zhang. Will develop a research programme in Photonic Quantum Data Analysis, exploring the limits of learning from quantum data with realistic hardware. Future quantum technologies will generate information in the form of quantum states, produced by quantum computers and quantum sensors and shared across quantum networks through photonic links. A major challenge is how to process high-dimensional quantum data as efficiently and accurately as possible. This programme could enable next-generation quantum sensors and more powerful machine learning models for efficient data processing in future quantum networks.
Dr. Zhang earned his Bachelor's degree and Ph.D. from Nanjing University. He then worked as a Research Associate at Imperial College London (2022-2024) and a UKRI Guarantee Marie Curie Fellow in the Department of Physics at University of Oxford (2024-2026). His research lies at the intersection of quantum physics, optics and information science, spanning photonic quantum information, quantum sensing and imaging. He also serves as an Associate Editor of Physical Review A and was an Editorial Board Member of New Journal of Physics (2024-2026).
