Jon Keating is a mathematical physicist whose research focuses on complex quantum systems and statistical mechanics. Specifically, he works in the areas of quantum chaos and random matrix theory. In quantum chaos, the main focus is on elucidating the quantum properties of systems whose classical dynamics is chaotic, or effectively random for some other reason, for example dynamics on complex networks. Such quantum systems are typically modelled using random matrices — matrices whose entries are random variables. He has worked on applying ideas from random matrix theory to quantum information theory, as well as to certain problems in number theory involving objects like the Riemann zeta-function.
