Thorsten Hesjedal

I am Professor of Condensed Matter Physics, working on quantum materials in the form of thin films and nanostructures. I graduated with a Dr. rer. nat. degree in physics from the Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. Before coming to Oxford, I was Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada), Visiting Associate Professor at Stanford University, and Visiting Professor at the UC Santa Barbara. My research facilities are located both in the Clarendon Laboratory and at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory site. I am cross-appointed to ISIS/STFC and the Diamond Light Source.

My research focuses on the growth of topological and/or magnetic materials in the form of thin films and of nanostructures using molecular beam epitaxy, sputtering, and chemical vapor deposition; their structural, magnetic, and electrical characterization; as well as exploratory device studies.
